The natural resource management is not a new topic for Nepal however it has been recently included in various disciplines (e.g., zoology, botany, forestry, environment science, social sciences etc.) of graduate and undergraduate courses of various universities of Nepal. These courses are ineffective untill the proper educational materials available. To fulfil this gap, we have decided to write this book that covers most of the courses in the field of natural resource management and conservation biology. We have included several examples and case studies from Nepal and also from outside in necessary places.
This book provides information about various types of natural resources (e.g., water, land, mountain, biodiversity, forest and energy resources), their management way and issues, impacts on natural resources (e.g., climate change), sustainable development, policy and governance of natural resources management. The study of natural resource management is more important for the people of country like Nepal. The country possesses various types of climatic condition- tropical to alpine due to its diverse topography and geography. Such situation creates diverse habitats for rich biodiversity. Most of the people are under the poverty line and the fragile mountain landscape creates ever more difficult life. Sustainable use of the natural resources is the most important livelihood option for the people. The studies of natural resource management can aware people to adapt in the fragile mountains by utilizing natural resources in sustainable ways. The objectives of this book will be obtained once it inspires people about the importance of the natural resource management.
